Inspired!

If you didn't hear from me at all last week, it was because I was off getting inspired and educated. I was in Atlantic City, NJ learning from some of the best photographers in the wedding and children's portrait business.  The workshop was four days long and we had a chance to do creative bridal sessions (you aren't worried about getting your dress dirty).  As soon as I edit those photos, I will post them for you. 

One of my favorite speakers was Tina Wilson, who owns a studio in Johnson City, TN. Her work is absolutely wonderful and if you live in TN, you should definitely give her a call. Click on her name above to go to her website.

I learned so many things this past week that I think my head may explode. I know it's not going to explode, but it sure feels like it. Being with 50 other photographers and getting a chance to talk with the pros is an amazing experience and a creative rush. Look for new and exciting things from JRP in the next several months.

Tina in action:

Sometimes....

As a photographer, I have the responsiblity of documenting a passing moment in time, a wedding, that thing your child does, or the beauty of a newly born child.  Most of the time I have never met those I will photograph and I only get a brief glimpse into to the lives I am capturing.

But sometimes an assigment comes around where this is not the case. It is an assignment that has deep personal meaning for myself and those being photographed.  I have been a small part of the person's life  and it makes being a photographer the most wonderful job in the entire world! It brings deep personal satisfaction to tell such a story.

Such was my assignment this past Friday. I was honored to photograph the retirement ceremony of Captain Christoper Wode, USN. Chris, as I now get to call him, was my commanding officer and mentor when I served on the USS Mount Whitney.  He is one of those guys that you would go to work for any time any where.  He tried his hardest to convince me to stay in the Navy, but I think now he will agree that I have found my calling.  I was thrilled when he asked me to photograph his retirement.

It was such a pleasure to be able to tell the story of Capt Chris Wode, USN, Retired.   It brings a great sense of peace that I have been able to give a gift that will always be cherished.
